fevers and vomit and disinfecting

OH.... MY.... GOODNESS....
We've had one helluva week! I should say 2 weeks because Kloey stopped sleeping at night almost 2 weeks ago. Oh bless my heavens and stars we are sooo tired!!!! Five days ago Klo started to vomit and then the diarrhea started. Oh dear gracious.... So I decided to take Klo to the doctor after putting up with this for what seemed to be far too long. Turns out she has some bacterial virus and not just your typical flu. Okay, so there is something that they can do for it. Hurray! Also turns out that this bacteria can live on surfaces for up to 4 weeks... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(we can still have fun with pictures right?)

So, we get home after dragging her to the pharmacy. The only person she smiled at yesterday was the nurse at the doctor's office. She was so sick.

Fast forward to midnight last night.... this is where the fun begins....
12:00-- Kourtney wakes up cranky as all freakin' get out
12:30-- we realize that she is probably sick (initiate parent-panic suppression)
12:45--Kloey will not sleep unless she is being rocked or patted or both
1:00--we decide tonight will be a one parent per child night. Jordan takes the Kloey/living room shift... I take the Kourtney/bedroom (my bedroom) shift
1:30--we finally fall asleep
.......
3:15--"Mommy???...." you know the middle-of-the-night voice I'm referring to... the one that gets you moving faster than you've ever moved when in a half-zombie state
...Me: "sit up! you have to sit up! sit up! sit up!!!!"
Kourtney: not sitting up....... spews vomit all over my bed
Me: "in the bowl! in the bowl! in the boooowwwllll!!!!"
Kourtney: managed to get almost half in the bowl... I commend the girl

3:20--Initiate cleanup mode
strip the bed
scrub the mattress
strip the child
scrub the face
obtain clean bed things
somehow drag your lead footed and nauseated self around the bed tucking in all necessary corners
throw vomit soiled nightgown, pillows, pillow cases, sheets, blankets into the washing machine
realize there is already a load of wash diarrhea soiled things in the washing mashine
curse the very sky above you
somehow manage to take clean clothes out of the dryer/put wet clothes in it
start vomit load
try not to vomit
try not to vomit
try not to vomit

4:00--Flop into bed
4:05--your 18 month old decides she feels all better and would like to play if you could kindly oblige
...*&&&^$&%&^%*&*)*(&(*&%&%$^%$&^%*&^(  .... my thoughts at that moment
4:20--somehow I know that everyone is asleep
4:25--closing the weary eyelids for sweet sweet-
4:26--"Mommy?...."
Me:"Oh Dear Lord why me?" ..."sit up sit up sit up!" "in the bowl in the bowl in the bowl"
Kourtney:bless her sweet sweet heart.... she got it in the bowl!
4:30--Get up.... wash the bowl... stumble back to bed... pass out

Apparently she got up and moved to the couch with Jordan. She then proceeded to vomit one more time and managed to make it in the bowl once again.

It had been several hours since she had thrown up so we decided to try a popsicle. She wanted another... and another.... Why Stephanie? Why?

While we were in the middle of disinfecting our house... and I do mean DISINFECTING OUR HOUSE... I hear that voice from the other side of the apartment... "Mommy?...."
I tell you I had piles to jump over and a bowl to grab and I imagine it looked something like a mad woman racing towards her child in a fit of rage, grabbing a random kitchen  bowl while screaming "ALL HANDS ON DECK! MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!!!! GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!"
And while you're holding back your child's hair you're just thinking, "don't vomit don't vomit don't vomit"
Because heaven knows Mom's just cannot afford to get sick in situations like these.

Bless my soul....

Not to forget

I have noticed that with my school and homework load I have had a lot less time to record my thoughts and precious moments. For anyone who cares, here is my list of "To Not Forgets"...

  • Kourtney looked at me today and said, "Mommy, just don't go in my room. You will be really mad." hmmm... "Just go do your homework Mom"...... *insert quizzical face*
  • Kloey rolled the ball back to me today. She did it over and over again. We played a game! We played a game!!!!!!
  • Jordan's last night of real estate school is tonight! HUZZAH!!!!
  • I cannot make it home to see my family in April. Circumstances are what they are. and that makes me sad.
  • Spring is just around the corner... I can just FEEL IT.
  • I just spent 5 hours doing my history homework. feel like that might be a bit excessive for a basic foundations class. eh.
  • I swear we live in the smallest apartment and we love every minute of it! For some reason it is just so fun... well not 24/7... but for the most part.
  • My kids are both sleeping. they are regularly in bed by 7:30 and 8:00. That, my friends, is called bliss.
  • Not eating dairy is just killing me. Gluten intolerance is hard and all, but dairy! Oh I just want some cheese.
  • You would think I would be losing extra weight because I don't eat any high fatty dairy stuffs... I did lose a couple of pounds but I feel super great about myself so we're good!
  • Kloey has gained 2 1/2 pounds in the last 3 weeks. for those of you that do not know... that is a HUGE accomplishment for Klo Bow. And it probably means that the hole in her heart is completely closed by now. SO EXCITING!!!
  • Midterms are next week.... shoot me in the foot.
  • I read the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story, part of it anyway, really freakin' creepy and oddly good
  • Kourtney regularly counts all the way to 40 and 50. I think that's incredible. She even knows her letters and constantly points them out. She is so smart.
  • Kourtney helped comfort Kloey yesterday when her vaccinations were making her feel yucky. As a big sister she just rocks!!!
  • Klo gave me a kiss today... probably just to get me out of her face... but she did it!!!!
  • Kourtney is always saying please and thank you these days. Making manners a priority was a very wise choice on our parts.
  • That's not to say that she's polite all the time. Goodness knows she's not!
Well... some pictures!!!!!

She has started asking to hold Kloey... all of the time!!! It is so super cute!!!
She wanted to pose in her dress up stuff. We were about to embark on our tent fort adventures for family night.
This was Kloey's reaction to our tent fort night.
Hanging out in the fort before church. She just had a blast!!!

LIfe anD CraZIneSS

Life certainly has become quite crazy around the Hansen household. It seems as if we are finally reaching a point where a slower pace is possible. Thank Goodness. I was losing it!
Funny thing about the picture below: When Kourtney was a baby and she would get tired she would crash anywhere.... Kloey wasn't having that. She got tired while playing with Kourtney in their room and just decided to crawl up on Kourtney's bed and take a snooze. (Kourtney's mattress is normally pushed under Kloey's crib, so it wasn't too high up). Is this not absolutely darling?

Kourtney looooves to hold her little sister. She wasn't really into it when Klo was really little, and now she can't get enough of it! It is so funny to watch her hold on to her so tight, especially because she's not very big herself.
On Valentine's Day Kourtney decided to throw a huge tantrum (surprise surprise) Bless her heart. Kloey took advantage of Mom and Dad's attention being elsewhere... She found sister's candy.... yeah.
This is her look of innocence. Who could get mad at that???

How Do I Love You?

In honor of Valentine's Day...
To my children:

How do I love you?
Let me count the ways...
I love you to the moon and back
even on my lazy days.
I love you so I'll pick your nose,
eat your toes,
wash your clothes.
I love you so I'll wipe your butt,
kiss your cut,
blow raspberries on your gut.
Yes, I will feed you
at whatever time of day.
Be it noon,
morning,
or after I've just hit the hay.
It is my greatest pleasure
to hold you while you squirm,
to calmly check my patience
when you make me want to scream.
But really,
I love you most when
you have decided to dream.
I love to watch you breathe.
I love to see you learn.
I love that you are mine.
For your love I yearn.

homemade granola, tantrums, and falling on ice

Wow! It's been a while. Let me see... where to begin?

  • Kloey pooped all over her bed today... is it weird that I was a little happy to be home when that happened? I guess so. But I was just so glad that I could be there to clean it up so that my sweet husband didn't have to. He still offered, but I just hummed along as I got her bed nice, clean, and cozy again.
  • Kourtney is throwing a tantrum in my bedroom right now. At least the door is closed. But I am absolutely certain that my neighbors are getting a good earful right now. Living underneath a family of four is sure to be annoying.
  • Jordan starts his second phase of real estate school tonight. I don't like when he's gone. He is such a tremendous help with the girls... and I love him.
  • I spent all day yesterday listening to primary songs and cleaning my house. Once the house was clean I proceeded to make homemade granola bars, oatmeal bites, and plenty of leftovers for the week. Mainly because I do NOT want to subject my daughters to their father's cooking [wink wink]... but really.
  • Unfortunately, Kloey is beginning to phase out of her seeming perfection. Can we say attitude?!! Oh my goodness. And so demanding! She is not quiet about things that she wants/needs. No sir. It's pretty cute, I must say. Really I am just so happy that she has hit another milestone.
  • I ignored all of my homework this weekend to play with my children... and it was totally worth it.
  • Stake Conference was this past weekend and I got to sing in the choir. Oh, what sweet bliss it is to me to be able to sing as loudly as I can in a wonderful choir. Miss those high school days.
  • Kourtney keeps telling me how much she misses my family. It certainly does a number on my heart.
  • Realization struck me just now: Kourtney will start kindergarten this year. Holy WHAT?!!! Yep.
  • Working out has become boring for me. I desperately need a buddy to go with.
  • My husband went outside to scrape the ice off of my car this morning and fell on the ice... we got a good chuckle out of that.
  • I have a friend in my history class that makes me laugh ALL OF THE TIME! I am a pretty easy laugher... but still.... she's hilarious!
  • I like who I am... I think that is important in life.
  • I need to serve more.
A little bit of random always does a lot of good... at least for me. Enjoy the photographs!

This was all last week... sick!
Kourtney took it upon herself to help Klo feel better.
Big sister sharing her spaghetti (in the living room, obviously Mom isn't home)
What?.. you don't eat chocolate cookies like this???
Happy Monday!
